When I think back on my childhood, I think immediately of The Playhouse! It is where I made lifelong friends, cultivated confidence, and fell in love with theater in a way that has shaped my entire life. It was my second home growing up and I love it with all my heart. It is so important that we support The Playhouse so that future generations of Marin children are able to experience the joy of finding themselves through theater, creativity, and the most special community.
The Playhouse has felt like home to me since moving to Marin and I feel so honored to be a part of its amazing history of community theatre for all walks of life. The unconventional set up makes for an amazing creative space to make every production a uniquely special one. I am so grateful for the affordability, and the resources such as sound and lighting equipment that are available for us to use. My productions would not be the same without the amazing Playhouse!!
I’m blessed to have travelled all over the world performing in musicals. Living my dream as an artist is a result of the opportunities I had performing in The Playhouse.
Heather Gant Lawrence
The Playhouse is, and always will be, my second home. Throughout my time as a performer at the Playhouse, I learned many valuable lessons I put into practice in daily life. I learned to respect, support, and help others. I learned to be organized, especially with my costumes, personal belongings, and minimally messy snacks (which always consisted of water and French bread). As a Playhouse actor, I learned the necessity of planning ahead. (No actor wants to enter the stage at the wrong time, on the wrong side, in the wrong costume, holding a prop used in act 2!) With a career as a teacher, I have come to realize the most valuable lesson learned by performing at the Playhouse. Performing on the diagonal, an uncommon method of performing a show in its entirety, instilled in me the importance of making a personal connection with every person to whom I came into contact. I am, and will always be, grateful for my time at the Playhouse.
The San Anselmo Playhouse has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I am so thankful that I had the chance to make many memories on that stage and behind the scenes with life-long friends. From my very first ballet performance when I was three years old, to the countless musicals I performed on that stage with Marilyn Izdebski Productions, The Playhouse was where I grew up and found my deep-rooted passion for performing. Throughout the years, I’ve grown to appreciate those experiences that were so unique. I feel so lucky that I had the chance to find my passion for performing while taking part in community theater and dance at The Playhouse in San Anselmo.
